GIN COCKTAILS AND CRAFT ALE COME TOGETHER AT RAVENSWOOD
WORDS BY PAUL HICKIN
On the Ravenswood industrial estate on the edge of Walthamstow village, drinkers face an enjoyable dilemma: head to a gin lover’s treasure trove in Mother’s Ruin, which has some of the finest gin-based cocktails in a brightly lit but cosy space, or dive into the dark and dingy Wild Card Brewery, which has an intriguing selection of independent craft ales. The industrial estate may reside in no-man’s land between Walthamstow and Wood Street, but during the weekend it comes alive and has capitalised on key trends in the drinking world. When did gin and ale become cool again? Seems some time now, indicating these two trends have staying power. So if you are going there, why make a choice at all? Just remember the motto: gin then beer feeling queer, beer then gin, you are sure to win!
